Heart Ready City Award 2004

American Heart Association
The American Heart Association’s “Heart Ready Award” named Boynton Beach the first ever “heart ready” city in the southeastern region of the state. The “Heart Ready Awards” recognize community partners who have provided leadership and commitment to saving lives through continued and significant contributions to advancing the “Chain of Survival.” (The term refers to the steps that need to be followed in a life-saving rescue attempt: Step 1: Early Access (Call 911) Step 2: Early CPR Step 3: Early Defibrillation Step 4: Early Advanced Care.)
Boynton Beach has either met or exceeded the requisite criteria to earn the “heart ready” honor.
The City Of Boynton Beach employs an enhanced 9-1-1 emergency medical dispatch system designed to lower “time to defibrillation.” All Fire Rescue staff personnel carry an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), plus, through the department’s CPR and AED training/tracking programs, additional AED’s have been placed throughout the city including City Hall and the Civic Center, Senior Center, Tennis Center, The Links golf course and at the beach for Ocean Rescue. By tracking the placement of the AED’s, dispatchers can direct any first responder to the nearest unit saving essential time in the chain of survival. The Fire Rescue Department has equipped and trained several other city departments in the use of AED’s including the Police Department.
