The Fire & Life Safety Division has five certified fire investigators on call 24/7 that provide cause and origin determinations. The emphasis is on identifying causes, which then guide our prevention focus. The analytical approach to fire investigations begins with the thorough examination of the scene where patient, thorough, and systematic evaluation are essential elements. The complexities encountered in fire investigations are substantial, but patience and adherence to fundamental scientific principles of combustion and fire behavior will usually result in a reasonable diagnosis of a fire.
In addition to determining the cause of accidental fires in order to prevent future occurrences, the criminal prosecution of incendiary or arson fires is rigorously pursued. Boynton Beach Fire Investigators are supported by the State Fire Marshal’s office and state criminal laboratory services.
