Special Operations Team
BBFR has the ability to respond to all types of emergencies, even those that are considered to be out of the ordinary. "Out of the ordinary" refers to calls that require specialized equipment and training. Included in this category are Elevated Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue, Heavy Extrication and Building Collapse. Collectively, this is called Technical Rescue and BBFR has a Special Operations Team of 21 personnel that is capable of responding to these types of emergency calls.
The department has a special heavy rescue vehicle that carries the various tools/equipment necessary to use with these types of responses. In addition to the above, the department can also respond to radiation emergencies and we have recently upgraded our equipment in this area to meet the growing threat of domestic and foreign terrorism.
At this time, the BBFR SPOPS team is undergoing additional training in order to be able to respond as an Urban Search and Rescue Team. This is an initiative put together by our government to also aid in the effective response to terrorism.
